When people hear their alarm in the morning, they more than likely dread the sound. Snoozing the alarm over and over until they finally rip themselves out of bed at the last minute. Don’t worry, if this is you, you are definitely not alone, but I am going to tell you some tips and tricks on why waking up early can change your life. I mean, lets’ just state the obvious, the earlier you wake up in the morning, the more time you will have in the day. Having more time in your day can lead you to do more productive things with your time; which will push closer to your goals, and let’s face it everyone wants to reach their goals. I was just like you, when I would hear people would wake up that early in the morning, it would almost confuse me. What do these people do for three hours before work/school, how do they get out of bed, and most importantly WHY do they get up so early. It is very easy to stay up late and sacrifice your sleep, because if you HAVE to wake up by a certain time in the morning, you are forced to do it. It is not really a choice, when you start having the choice to wake up earlier, it because more difficult to train your body. The reality of the situation is this: people dread the large chunk of time between here and 6 AM. It’s the “oh-my-gosh, I need to wake up AN HOUR earlier?!” feeling. And because they rely on motivation to overcome this, the plan to wake up early is scrapped almost immediately when they first hear the alarm, even if they went to bed with good intentions. Now let’s start talking about way you can force yourself into an early morning routine. Start putting your excuses in the back of your head, when you hear your alarm and the first thing you think about is “oh no, 5 more minutes, I am so tired” your body will naturally not want to wake up in 5 minutes when your alarm goes off. Getting “enough” sleep really isn’t the issue here. This is something we can manage, either by modifying our bedtime or discovering that we may not need quite as much sleep as we’re currently getting. Sleep duration aside, I believe the bigger issue exists with the excuses that people frequently use. Give yourself something to look forward too, like brewing your coffee at a certain time so when you are coming out of your room you can smell it down the hall way; (that always gets my butt out of bed). When you are training your body to wake up early; DO NOT SKIP THE WEEKENDS OFF. Your routine will not stick of you are skipping days, at least do this for 2 weeks straight every day and after the 2 weeks your body will start to naturally wake up around the time of your alarm clock.  Now that waking up early is a routine you can start incorporating proactive things into your time, like going on a walk, or yoga at home, or even reading a good book to get your brain started. When you wake up early, and wake your body up and start your day, your day will run more smoothly, but when you drag out of your bed your day typically follows that with a drag. When you want to become a morning person, you have to make it a routine you can just hope it will happen.
